Hello beautiful, There’s ONE thing I absolutely hate about the summertime… The fact that, from April onwards, the media uses better weather as a way to tell you you’re not good enough. Right now you’re supposed to be at least a month into your summer diet, you’ve been told you need to spend all of your spare income on a whole new wardrobe, and you’re desperately lifting weights every morning in an attempt to banish your ‘bingo wings’. So it feels like the right time to breeze in with your annual, pre-summer reminder: You are already perfect EXACTLY as you are, gorgeous! And there are only 3 things you need to do to prep yourself for your best summer ever: Summer clothes are for every body! Know that it’s A-Ok to wear whatever you’re comfortable in when the temperature soars (and when it doesn’t!) You do not have to wear sleeves, avoid shorts, or stick to below-the-knee dresses if your proportions aren’t that of a supermodel. So if your wardrobe is full of summer clothes you love and that feel comfy when it’s warm…you’re good to go. 2. Remember sunscreen! You already know that you need to slather on the high-factor sun cream on the nicest summer days, but don’t forget to apply it every morning when prepping your skin for the day — even the dullest days at this time of year can cause skin damage. And don’t forget the easy-to-miss places like lips, ears, and the back of your neck. Top tip: Buy a couple extra bottles if you can afford to and keep one in your car/handbag for those unexpectedly warm days that often catch us out. This is my current fave sunblock. 3. Take time for yourself. It’s all too easy to get caught up in summer plans — holidays with the family, keeping the kids entertained during the school break, weddings galore, and impromptu BBQs with the neighbours… But know that it’s worth taking time for yourself too. If the busyness of the summer usually wipes you out, start planning some things that are just for you. That might look like establishing a meditation habit now, blocking out a day each week in advance so you know not to accept too many invitations, or even just reminding yourself that it’s ok to let the kids be bored every now and then! Ultimately, it’s your summer too — don’t get so caught up in making it magical for everyone else that you forget to enjoy these lovely sunshine-y days yourself.
